Is there really truly no way to export a family from a project? Some items have been lost from our library and they exist only in some of our projects. I need to make changes to the family, not just insert them in other projects.
If there is no way, is this something Revit is has on its to-do list?

In 6.1 and 6.0 (I think), you can click on the family in the project browser and save any family from your project. This includes in-place families, too (I think).
Oops, I was wrong. Can't save in-place families yet.

The families that you can export have to have been created in Revit 6.0 or later.
You can't open a 5.0 project in 6.1 and export out all the old families.

In place families can be placed in a group and saved for future use by exporting the group.

Well, it is good news that families can be exported. I notice now that the families I have already edited and saved in 6.1 have the save option in the browser. However, several of the families that I can't find outside of projects were created pre-6.0 and those can't be saved. Odd that bringing the entire project into 6.1 doesn't do the trick.
