I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to change the snap commands. What I mean is, when you draw a line and want to snap to an endpoint, you just type "end" I want to just type "e". Does anyone know where to change that with the new CUI. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks in advance

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD Customization (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=118) forum to this one, as I believe it will be better served here.

Thanks, Mike

Do you know you can hold down SHIFT and right-click for an OSNAP menu?

There are also the temporary overrides. For example, hold down SHIFT+E to temporarily turn on the endpoint OSNAP. The OSNAP will only remain on while you hold down SHIFT+E, so click your point while holding the keys.

You can also set the systemvariable OSMODE to 111
that is a mix of _endp, _mid, _cen, _nod, _int and _ins
osmode 111 is easy to remember and easy to use

If you do this you need to be careful about the short forms you pick. For example, "e" (for END) is a valid second input to the ARC command. If you you use "e" to mean "snap to endpoint of", acad will not know which interpretation to use.

I'm not saying that you can't make this work, just that you will need to think it through carefully.

Presumably you are using AC2006,

1. type CUI at the command line,(wait some seconds),
2. At top LH window click keyboard shortcuts,
2.Shortcut keys
Go To Btm LH window (all commands)
3. Find "Snap to Endpoint"
4. Drag it up to Top LH window (now you have it as a possible shortcut)
5. Click the Shortcut "Snap to Endpoint"
6. It now appears as a macro in the RH btm Window.
7. Click the "Key(s)" line, the ... button will appear at the RH line end
8. click the ... button
9. A "Shortcut Keys" dialogue box will appear for you to select the desired key
10. probably best to choose a Function key you don't use or the "end" button
11. Press "apply"

Hope this helps.

My favorite "default" is 4139 - endp, midp, nod, int, and ext. Then I use accelerator keys - SHIFT+C for cen, SHIFT+Z for perp, SHIFT+R for near, and I use Shift to Acquire to keep from getting an accidental EXT.

What about overides?

I have mine changed to shift + 1 (endpoint), shift + 2(mid), shift + 3 (perp), etc.

Did not take me long to get comfortable.

Hello ian.93794,
If I wanted to use transparent commands I would just add the ' , correct?

thanks, Tom G.

Transparent commands - yes; osnaps no, you don't need the apostrophe.
