AutoCAD Help is a very powerful convergent tool with which you can organise and access both online and offline help topics and resources very easily. Here goes some of the organisational techniques.

Open AutoCAD Help window from the menu or by pressing 'F1'.

Right click on the title bar and select 'Jump to URL' from the menu (See help_01.jgp).

Type in full address of the resource you wish to access (eg: http://www.autodesk.com (http://www.autodesk.com/)). Don't forget to type full address including 'http://' (see help_02.jpg)

Navigate to the pages of your interest. Now goto favourite tab. You will see the address of the current page in the text box below. Just click on the 'Add' button to add the current page to the favourites. (See help_03.jpg)

You will see that the entire URL has been added to the favourite section. To make it compact and meaningful, just right click on the added link and choose 'Rename'. Type in a convenient name over there. (See help_04.jpg). To remove the link, select it and click on remove button. To naviage to the link, first select the link and click on display button or simply double click on the link.

Add as many locations as you wish. You can add local autocad help topics as well. You might have noticed in the help_05.jpg that I gave 'online' and 'offline' in the brackets to distinguish between them.Whenever you open help, goto favourite tab and double click on your favourite link to access that resource immediately.

Hope that Helps

It seems like the AutoCAD help menu is one of the most disregarded resources available to CAD users. Through the index function of the help menu you can look up commands to read up on all the different variables to each command. Very helpful. Usually when someone comes to me for help, the first thing i will do is pull up the help menu and do an index search for the keyword of the problem they are having. I get the answer withing the first 2-3 word searches.

I don't have a favorites tab, what's the deal with that?

I don't have a favorites tab, what's the deal with that?Which version of AutoCAD you are using...? If you are using something above R2004, try this.

Help Menu --> Additional Resources --> Developer Help.

There you will see your favorite 'favorites'tab. It works well with AutoCAD 2006. I don't have R2005 or R2007 available for checking.

Hi all,

Is there any way to make the help go to one of your favorites when you bring up help (like Home Page for IE)? Maybe a registry setting or something?

Also, is there a way to keep it from firing the stand alone browser when you click a link in a thread ("open in same window" instead of "open in new window")?

TIA
