There can sometimes be a problem upgrading old version linked files to 5.1.
This occurs when a fascia, gutter or slab edge is locked to a grid. The 5.1 upgrade utility can have trouble with this condition.
The workaround is to open the offending file, select Tools > Element IDs > Select by ID > " enter the ID numbers.... see Diagnostic Tool in Help for the proceedure ", > select OK, then delete. Do this for each locked element ( of the list above ). This removes the locked dimensions from the project. Save the file, upgrade it and check your views to see if any critical dimensions were removed. The master file and any linked files should now open in 5.1.
This workaround was provided by Revit Support.
Its likely that this issue will be resolved in the next upgrade.
