View Full Version : Cannot relinquish

Hi all,

I'm still working on RB8.1 and have a recurring problem that I can't figure out what's causing it.

Team member "X" is getting in his local file and then exiting without saving (he's just viewing and not making changes....now I'm asking him to detach from central when opening his local file). Some items got borrowed in the process, so I tried to open the central file under his username to relinquish what he borrowed. When I go to Save to Central, it shows that View Worksets are checked out so I check the box to relinquish them after save. Well, if I go to Save to Central again, the same option is still available, meaning the workset hasn't been relinquished. If I go to the worksets to view who's borrowing items or checking out worksets, team member "X"'s name doesn't show up!

Also, even after saving and relinquishing, I get the message "You've made changes. Either Save to Central or discard local, re-open Central, and Relinquish All Mine again". Well, I follow the instructions to the letter but the workset isn't relinquished. And the same message keeps appearing....it's like the Relinquish All Mine command doesn't work. Any ideas what's going on here?

UPDATE:

Well, it's kinda scary but it seems Revit is confused about who has something checked out. If user A opens the local and tries to delete a section mark, it says user B has it editable, and if user B tries to delete the same section from their local, Revit says user A has it! This is scary stuff.....

I've tried auditing, compacting, making new locals...nothing has worked yet. Revit seems to be caught in a vicious circle of some sort. I finally managed to re-create the local for user B, and deleted the offending section from there. That solved it, but it was a corruption of some sort as the workset was not shown as being checked out. Even after placing editing requests and having them granted didn't solve the problem.

They're not using the same username, are they?

Ok, have each user make everything editable they can and STC, then the other user do the same. If it still isn't cleared up have them both close, and you open the central file as one of them, select everything, make editable, then relinquish all, then repeat as teh other user.

truevis, no, different username.

Thanks a lot Scott, will try that next time this happens. I finally was able to delete the view from the central file (was just an undetailed section cut) and it seems to be resolved now.

I still don't understand when/how the Relinquish All Mine command works. I always get the "You've made changes..." message. The way I expect this to work is to give back the borrowed elements without changing them (after asking you if you're sure about this), basically "discarding" your changes. Next time you open your local, it should be back to what the central is.

Scott, I had another problem with another view, identical to what I posted above. Your suggestion of opening the central under a username, checking everything out and saving back to central (and relinquishing) and then doing the same with the other username worked. I did an audit also in the process, as I guess regularly compacting the central is not enough :) Thanks a lot!
