{the crash seems to happen where two Polylines are joined like in the ex. below.}

Try this if you are creating a feature line from an existing object, first change it to Continuous if it's not already then make sure that all the line segment are going in the same direction... example is "----TOB----.----BOT----" The dot in the middle is where the two line segments are joined, after exploding said polyline the second line or arc segment flops its starting point making it read backwards. but if you or someone else as joined the 2 or more segments by clicking on the 1st segment the others will read correctly.
okay now this is where i found the bug! maybe .... if I redraw the Polyline from the start point with a continuous linetype to the end point (you may have a dozen or some segments) i can now convert the polyline into a grading feature line!! or just by changing the start point on the backwards segments and rejoining them without using MPEDIT, just PEDIT on each segment. Then I'am able to use a grading tool on this feature line with out it crashing!

well I hope you can understand what I'm talking about....

check it out and see if it help you and let me know one way or the other

thanks for reading, on yea i forgot I'am currently using C3D-2005.
