Wow its been a long time! Sure hope everything works out for us this time! I have a question about imorting "Arg Files"! When I import my Paul.arg file from my acad 2k2 into acad 2000i Mechanical on the job site. Its a no go! I get an Autocad Alert saying: A bad profile name is specified in the command line- c:\acadm\Paul. I have tried renaming everything possible & nothing seems to work. Any ideas how to overcome this! or perhaps acad 2k2 arg's are not backwards compatible. Thanks in advance!

I don't know for sure, but my guess would be the fact that you are going from a vanilla AutoCAD into a mechanical AutoCAD...different command...probably not compatible..

Hi Paul

Please note I've *moved* this Topic (Thread) from the Layouts & Plotting (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=56) to this one as I believe it would be better served here.

Thanks, Mike

Hi

Check out the following Technical Document on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base section -

ID: TS47426 - Error: A bad profile file is specified in the command line: lddt.arg (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2877788&linkID=2475507)

ID: TS59597 - Error: A bad profile file is specified in the command line (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2879979&linkID=2476059)

ID: TS35480 - Bad Profile Specified in the Command Line error message (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2870982&linkID=2476059)

Note the above documents do *not* refer to the Autodesk product you're using but hopefully they will point you in the right direction.

Have a good one, Mike

Saved profiles (arg) are not backwards or cross-vertical compatible.

yes, that bummed me out that I could not import my profile to map 2005 from vanilla acad 2005.

I guess there is no way around that. ~sniff~

Hi

Sorry I disagree, I've just experimented and was able to import -

A Map5 (2002) profile into vanilla AutoCAD 2000i

A Map5 (2002) profile into Map4 (2000i)

Without any problems.

Have a good one, Mike

Yikes, I guess I better shut up now.

I based that statement off the knowledge that args are basically saved registery files, and each Autodesk product goes into its own place in the registery.

(Must remember to test, must remember to test.)

Thanks for all the feedback here! Something to think about & I will check those sites that Mike has pointed out! I have had problems importing or exporting .args from other ver.'s also. I think I'll just create my own within Mechanical 2000i & leave it at that. Sorry for not getting back to replying as the site did not show any responses to my question! I still don't see any comments that my posted question has been viewed or replied to. I'll have to check my user profile & see if I am getting email returns to my question. Have a good one All!

I will say that when you have several of the Adesk products loaded your profiles are specific. I thought I was going crazy one day because I couldn't delete a profile. Turns out I had created the profile in one product (ADT) and was trying to delete it in ACAD. Don't let this happen to you! <g>
