We have yet to switch to an upgraded network which **MAY** make this issue a moot point but:
Why must I make a copy of my support files in 'Shared Docs' to be able to modify them to company standards? This applies to general AutoCAD as well as to the myriad of AutoCAD Mechanical support files which I must modify to company standards format.

FWIW, We have had our copies of the support files for years in a network folder, that is RO to the users. When we install AutoCAD we make sure to place our support file's folders first in ACAD's support folder list. Then it doesn't matter.

Robert,
That sounds like a great idea.
AutoCAD (Mechanical) has been the poor stepchild ever since it was introduced here in 2000. With the assistance of our newly hired and experienced cad administrator, we will have the resources to devote more energy to setting up a similar scheme. Of course, new workstations, a new network and assoc. hardware, and up-to-date Autodesk software doesn't hurt one bit either.
As a side note, our IT dept.'s vice-president is demanding cad standards to be in place by the end of the year. Yippee, it's been a long time coming!
