Hello,

We are going to upgrade our AutoCAD 2004 to AutoCAD 2007 and included in this upgrade is an offer to add AutoCAD Electrical for little cost. I saw a demo and it looked impressive but I'd also like to hear from people who are using it on real work.

What do you think of AutoCAD Electrical? Are you happy with it? What types of drawings do you create with it? Any problems or issues to be aware of before starting a project with it?

Thanks for your time,
Steve

If you are still interested...
Using AutoCAD Electrical creating specialty machines.
Most beneficial is the Bill of Material generation.
It helps with field components that are often missed.
It is a lot to learn and I recommend your company sending some one to class. This will help in setting up projects and database structure.
Let me know would like more information. Happy to help!

Hello,

Thank you for responding. Yes I am interested in more information.
We are planning on attending class in August and will be trying Electrical
on one project to see how it goes. Is there some place where I could read
more about what makes Electrical work? I'm the CAD Manager and would
like to understand what makes the intelligence in Electrical work.

Regards,
Steve

Steve,
Glad to here your plans for attending class. There is a lot to learn but very helpful.
Some still get frustrated when the end results are not to their liking.
When I fix something they could not and there is not rhyme or reason, I say; "it must be a glitch."

Ok, reading material...
One would be on at the autodesk web site.
http://USA.autodesk.com/ADesk/servile/index?sited=123112&id=4255921 (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=4255921)
and Cadalyst magazine
http://www.CADalyst.com (http://www.cadalyst.com/)
of course there is AUGIWorld
http://www.augi.com/publications/default.asp

What makes Electrical work are databases. They link everything together through attributes.
It is fun looking into and going behind the scene.

Steve,
do you currently have the AutoCAD electrical?

If so, there is a tutorial under the Electrical Help menu.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
