Default value of Field is "----"

Another field question. Our company uses xrefs for our title sheets. We would like to set up fields for the information that changes from drawing to drawing. By using the drawing properties (File --> Drawing properties...) we can control all this information from there, by setting up custom properties (Whats more this information is then accessible from the file explorer as well). However when I tried setting up a few fields in this way, i noticed that the default value is "----". Is there any way to change this default setting as sometimes values are left blank until needed but we dont want the dashes appearing on the title sheets.
