I know theres no CAD allowed in here but the Help, Tips and Tricks forum doesn't let me post a new thread.
Basically, ive got an e-mail that has 10 attatchments in the form of PLT files. How can I open them?????
Ive tried renaming them to DWG but doesn't work, and when i double click on the icon, autocad pops up and say darwing file invalid.
Is there any way i can opem them?????

Hi
I take it you are referring to "Forum Tips & Tricks (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46)", I believe that Forum is read only and is used by the Forum Manager/Admin etc to post useful info that relates to using the Forums; small print reads "Tips on using Forums and getting the most out of the features".
You need a Viewer that reads PLT files (probably some form of HPGL) -
ViewCompanion (http://www.softwarecompanions.com/viewcomp.html)
CADwizz (http://www.cadwizz.com/cadview.htm)
AutoVue (http://www.cimmetry.com/cimweb.nsf)
ABViewer (http://www.cadsofttools.com/?PageName=ABViewer)
An internet search will turn up a lot more products, the above is just to get you going in the right direction.
If you have Express Tools you might want to take a look at the command PLT2DWG -
PullDownMenu: Express -> File tools -> Convert PLT to DWG
Note - this command is very limited.
Have a good one, Mike

Hi Bob
Please note I've *moved* this Topic (Thread) from the CWC Forum (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=45) to this one as I believe it would be better served here.
Thanks, Mike

Hi
I believe AutoCAD LT doesn't have Express Tools (have never used that product so can't be 100% about my statement).
Regardless of that, I think you really require some kind of Viewer, I'll let others recommend their favourites....

Thanks Todd, we can view the files now. However, do you know if i can import them or copy them onto autocad so that i can modify them?

Hi
Some Viewers will let you covert to DXF format, you can then import to AutoCAD
OR
Take a look at the following utility -
HPGL2DXF (http://www.output.tmfweb.nl/)
Note - with the above methods you will be able to create a DWG file from your PLT file, but be aware that the results won't be perfect and some clean up work will probably be required.
Have a good one, Mike
