Create Custom Fields that reference outside data

I did a search and I couldn't find exactly what I am thinking about.

What I'd like to do without using SS. I'd like to inset custom field that can reference either an excel spread sheet or even better an SQL DB or something with access. Any clues.. This is an definite area I'm always fuzzy on.

As far as I know ( which means nothing ), it is not possible currently possible to achieve what you are after with Fields.

You might look into the dbConnect functionality in AutoCAD
