Hard return in Mtext when inserting text

For some reason whenever I am inserting copied text into a selection of mtext, I am getting a hard return after my paste.

for example (if I were to paste the word 'paste' into this sentence)

it would look like this in my mtext:

(if I were to paste the word
'paste' into this sentence)

this is not dependent on the width of the mtext box. I have toried it other machines in the office, and some display this and some do not. That is why I am thinking it must be a varaible somewhere that I cannot find.

Any ideas? I am running acad 2004 (and this happens in regular acad, map and land)

that autodesk memo from what I read deals with a situation where the width has to be set, or is not set.

My problem in independent of the width. It happens with both the width set at 1000, or 2, and with wordwrap on or off. It makes no difference.
