View Full Version : Searching classes in the archive

I'd like an easier way to search archives of classes. I just went to search "back" courses and realized I couldn't find an easy way to do it. ATP and a number simply doesn't tell me much. Yes, I could do a search, but what I'd like is an easier way to read my educational options.
An example would be going to a library. I don't always know what I want at the library, but somedays I'll walk up and down the rows of books and pick up a book that catches my eye. I'd like to be able to seach the archives of ATP the same way, look at the headings and get a feel for a topic. There are many times in using CAD I'll realize when I read something that I didn't know what I didn't know. This may also help in getting people to volunteer on topics that they otherwise figured "someone must have done a class on it" yet in reality... they have not.
Just a thought...

Are you looking in the archived Forums? Try looking here (http://www.augi.com/education/archive.asp?page=293), under the Education link. The full course description as originally posted for the class, along with access to the course material downloads is there. I was able to use Internet Explorer's Find function to search the page for a keyword to find related topics, or you can scroll through, looking for an item of interest.

I think you explained it very well. The ATP Courses Archive (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=157) is only intended to be accessed from the main Archived ATP Courses (http://www.augi.com/education/archive.asp?page=293)page. That page has the full course description and interface to download the course materials and is not a part of the forums.
I would also like to add that we're happy to have a class on a subject that has already been covered. Sometimes there are new features that were not available with the version that was current when the first course was written.

Thanks guys! Last night when I posted I had clicked here:
http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=157
Which really doesn't tell you anything. The individual sub-Forums do, but I didn't click down that far...
I'll likely volunteer in January or February to teach a class (I have a lot of educational dead-lines before then)...

Aaaaaaaaaaargh!
Help! Will someone hear my forlorn wail out there in the bleak wilderness of bits and digital connections?... I can hardly grasp it myself yet, even less put it in words, but I can't help the terrible truth from creeping in: I lost my ATP!
I was newly registered in ATP136 & ATP143 (nice classes by the way, especially 143...), and they suddenly vanished overnight! They don't even appear in the archived ATP courses & forums: there's no traces to be found, not the slightest evidence knowledge once was blooming in those unsung recoils of AUGI... :?
Where's it all gone? I hadn't even finished reading all the threads... Is there a vengeful god presiding over AUGI threads' destinies, to whom I shall offer sacrifices of fresh-killed chicken guts in order to entertain the hope of recovering those beloved ones?...;)
Thanks for any tips regarding the above...

Unfortunately, the class is now over and have gone into hiding for three months. The forums will be available at that time as well. You may be able to contact the ATP Staff to see if they can assist you.

I'm glad that you are enjoying ATP.
Never fear, in three months time you will be able to browse either of your desired courses to your hearts content. All this without any need for pagan ritual sacrifices. The only required sacrifice is a little patience. In the mean time take a look at the other wonderful classes that are available.

So that's how ATP works... :o
Just like the bears & the turtles, when Autumn's coming, they feel the urge to go and hibernate... I guess I'd better hurry to register with all relevant courses before they disappear in their secret winter lairs then...
Thanks for that usefull piece of behavioral knowledge, and regarding my ATP 136 & 143, I guess I'll just have to wait for the thaw (& I certainly shall find more interesting material to keep me occupied in the meantime...). ;)

Can I just ask what is the purpose of hiding them for three months? Is it an administartion reason or an attempt to persuade people to sign up on current courses and participate?
I think I'd rather have access to them all.
Just wondered.

In my opinion, it would be better to just close the forum to posting but leave it up so those of us who were unable to complete the course in 3 or 4 weeks due to other responsibilities could still read the posts. I registered for three courses that I was interested in, but only had time to complete 1 and a half during the alotted time (boss kept giving me work to do!). Now I have to try to get through the last one without the benefit of reading about issues other students encountered.

That is how it works ( has worked like that since ATP June 2006 ).
If you registered for an ATP Course you can still access the ATP Course Forum after the class has finished via the relevant ATP Course Forum URL ( No further posting is allowed ).

To go along with the information, Richard has kindly directed you toward, take a look at THIS thread ( fingers-crossed it will not open up a can of worms ).

Thanks Mike, I kind of guessed there was a logical reason for doing this. I hope I haven't already opened a can of worms (Note to self ~ stop trying to incite a riot  )

That would be great if I could find them. They disappeared from my list of current sub-forums and of course they're not in the archive yet. Nor are they available on the ATP site or through My ATP.
Where do I need to go?

Have you gone through the education link and clicked 'My APT' ?

Do you have a specific Course you are looking for?

Do you have a specific Course you are looking for? I was registered for #137, 143 & 144. ATP143 on Dynamic Blocks was the one I didn't get to in time.

If you registered for an ATP Course you can still access the ATP Course Forum after the class has finished via the relevant ATP Course Forum URL ( No further posting is allowed ).As a registered student of an ATP Course you would have automatically received email notifications ( updates ), contained within those emails you will find the relevant ATP Course Forum URL eg
ATP137 http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=450
ATP143 http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=474
ATP144 http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=475

Thank you. I didn't want all the clutter in my inbox, so I turned off the email notification. So I guess I'll save at least one email from each course in the future so I'll have that URL.
