In project browser, if detail is already referenced on sheet, show detail and sheet number it is referenced on - i.e. Detail abc (5/S12).

Just to throw another approach out there . . . we've adopted the NCS naming conventions for our view names. For example a section or detail view name would look something like this: S-NNN-AN. The first character is the discipline designator, the next 3 characters are the sheet number and the last two are the section / detail letter / number. The great thing about this approach is the details are automatically grouped by sheet number and are in order. While this does require the user to edit the view name if the section / detail is moved (not very Revit like) it sure does make it quick and easy to find the view you are looking for, especially in the Reference other view drop down on the option bar when placing a section or callout that is to reference a drafting view.

If this were automated as you suggest I would personally prefer the automated (5/S12) to be a prefix to the view name as opposed to a suffix and formatted as (S12/5) to take advantage of the grouping by sheet number. That way instead of seeing the project browser list like this: 5/S12, 5/S13, 6/S12, 6/S13 it would be grouped by sheet and in order like this: S12/5, S12/6, S13/5, S13/6. Even better, let us decide whether it's a prefix or suffix to the view name and how it is formatted.

Nothing like a 2 paragraph response to a 1 sentence wish  .

You actually made my point for me - a lot clearer...
Better project browser organization.....
Thanks

Would be great if that applied to the "Reference Other View" pull-down. Like maybe if it placed the sheet designation before the view name and organized them by sheet and sheet number.

I thought the original idea was a good one until I saw your refinements that make it better. Prefix or suffix & other formatting would be icing on the cake.

Not to discourage the wish but some of this can already be accomplished by creating a view list schedule and/or reworking the project browser organization.
It won't give you the exact appearance or formatting results you've described but it's a start

I would like to be able have maybe one or two more organization levels in the Section/Elevation/Detail/Drafting view sections. Maybe with a parameter on views that you can enter a second user defined view type that it then organizes them by those parameters as well. Like under drafting views you could also have them organized by foundation, or wall or ledger, etc.

Alan,
the browser can be sorted in a variety of ways using project parameters that you can add.

User Customized Project browser - Color or Symbol Based differentiation of Items under Project Browser.

One such scenario:
Checkoff Prefix - for all items placed on sheet-
No Checkoff means not on sheet.
or
Change FONT COLOR of all items not on sheet.

This is similar to: How current view is indicated with BOLD font in Project browser.
