ABS2004 to ACAD2007 and back again?

Problem:
Drawing created in ABS 2004, opened by ACAD2007 w/proxy objects enabled and SAVE set to save as 2004. Everything looks great, proxy objects are there...beautiful.
THEN....
Same drawing re-opened in ABS 2004. Proxy objects, which were created by ABS 2004 and only viewed in ACAD 2007, are GONE! Totally!
The weird thing is we can Copy the objects in ACAD 2007 and, using Paste Special, bring them IN to ABS 2004 (I'm not sure if they subsequently work properly there, but they're visible).

The fix? anyone? (Yes, we will be upgrading ABS, but in the meantime...?)

My only suggestion would be to see what your PROXYGRAPHICS system variable is set to in ACAD2007. It could be set to 0 (I think that's the default) which would not save the proxygraphics with the drawing. Try changing PROXYGRAPHICS to 1 and save the drawing.
