MDT 2004 - How to bring external file to browser to edit?

I am working with Mechanical descktop 2004, having problem when insert a file as an external file , how can I bring that file to browser to edit the part or subassemblies?
any help would be appriciate

External MDT files may be edited in place withing the top assembly file, or they may be opened as a separate file. Your choice.
