Nothing is more maddening than spending countless hours working on a project, publishing the drawings set, sending the dwf file out to the client and then seeing the finished product in the field with ****ed up text!

Autodesk should provide a way to identify font problems when publishing. Let us know if the font cannot be captured!

At least give us a list of "safe" fonts that can be capture in the dwf file, fonts that don't have copyright issues. Capturing as geometry is not an option for quality and file size reasons.

I agree that printed output is the end result of the entire process.

Safe AutoCAD fonts (published in May 2006)

Safe Inventor fonts (also from May 2006)

Thanks for the links.

The point that isn't made anywhere is that Acad will not capture copyright protected true type fonts, even if the font is in the capture list. This needs to be emphasized! There is no warning and the dwf preview looks fine. You think you've captured the font and only find out there is a problem after prints are made by clients or consultants. Depending on which font is substituted, the results can look amateurish, or worse, it can be illegible.

There should be a pop up warning that tells you the font will not be captured. In my view this is very critical flaw. I’ve “dumbed down” the appearance of my drawings to avoid the problem and I don’t like this solution. To an architect, appearance is more that just important, it’s everything!

I have asked the AutoCAD team for a list of fonts that can't be embedded for copyright reasons. If I get the list, I will post a blog entry.
