splitting a floor slab?

is there a way of splitting a sloor slab as you would with a toposurface?

I'm trying to split and separate a large slab object..

Copy the floor slab and modify in place.
I hope this is acceptable.

Exactly. You make a copy with a move of 0. Then you edit the first one to your new dimension, then the second one to match the first one.
