How does the Project Parameter work?

I created a Caisson Family and in the family I made a Soil Encroachment Bell parameter. This parameter is the minimum distance between caissons. It is based upon the diameter of the caisson therefore it will be different for each size. I currently created a type parameter in the family but each type will have to be set by the end user when a project level parameter will solve this in one shot. Can this be done?

without fully understanding how/what you're trying to achieve it's a little difficult to give a "concrete" answer BUT if the diameter parameter is a variable, then should you not make it an "instance" parameter?

The real question here is how or can one you do the following:

Create a shared parameter
Use this shared parameter at the project level
Create a family file that uses this project parameter
Where/how to set this in your project

To clarify my caisson family

The Caisson diameter is a type parameter not instance. The Soil Encroachment Bell parameter, which is a multiplier of the caissons diameter, will be the same for any caisson in this project. There is a formula which takes the Soil Encroachment Bell * Caisson Diameter + Caisson Radius. So a 3'-0" diameter caisson with a SEB of 2, the Caisson Clearance will be 7'-6". A 4'-0" diameter caisson with the same SEB of 2, the Caisson Clearance will be 10'-0"
