View Full Version : Insert a 3D Model on top of a 2D JPEG picture
I'm trying to insert a 3D solid model on top of a 2D picture.
Example: Take a picture of some pipes and beams, insert it into Autocad and read in a pre drawn 3D object on top of the picture. Rotate the 3D object, but leave the 2D picture as is in 2D plane.

That's Rendering operation with the picture applied to a background plane if you want to control its orientation or just used as a background if you don't need to be able to move it.

On your 3D drawing go to View\Named Views\New. For the background, select Image option, and browse to your JPG drawing. Use Apply and set as the current view. You can now rotate your 3d object, as well as render with that background.
Thanks for the reply. Setting the image as the background is going to work, I think.
When I orbit to rotate the 3D object, the background image appears, but when I leave the orbit command, the 2D image disappears. Something is not turned on or off.
