Is there a routine out there that will exchange one xreference for another similar to what reference manager does? I have a project which was started quickly, so cad standards were not followed closely. I have renamed an xreference to a standard naming convention. Now I want to select a group of drawings, and have a program tell those drawings to look for this new file, rather than the old one. I was hoping reference manager would have worked, as that is a very slick program. But that works only with the xreference path. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wow.....I see what you mean, reference manager only allows you to change the path but not the name. Hmmm....I wonder if Autodesk will add the feature.....it would be nice!

I'll poke around and see if I can find something to help you! (I am just amazed that reference manager allows you to see the name but not change it.)

I have done this in the past using a script and a Batch manager. Just write out a script that detaches the old Xref name, and attaches the new one. Making sure you are in Model Space and on the right layer of course.

Actually, the Xref manager will allow you to rename the Xref (even without changing the path this allows multiple xref instances and is good to use if let's say you want a demo and a new work plan in the same file - it allows the manipulation of layers for each style such as demo layers for the demo xref and new work for the new xref) ... to change the name just simply double-click on the name.

Also the xref is considered a block so you can use the rename function to change the name as well ... it basically comes down to which method you want to use.
