Annotations blocking work

For some reason grid lines, room tags, and annotation from linked files are blocking out my work. Even when the linked file is set to halftone and the model is a line weight of 4 work still gets blocked out. Does anyone know why this is? Printing to raster does not rectify the situation.

Go into the type properties of the text within each family which is masking things and set the background from "Opaque" to "transparent."

I already do that. I'm talking about the actual text itself. If the architectural has a large font style for notes, when we link it in it blocks our work out.

well for grids I just turn the arch grids off and use copied one, room tags are also made by us from copied rooms. Annotations however I am not sure what you would do about that.
