View Full Version : Correctly setting up lookup parameters to use with a steel joist

Hey guys, following my recent updates on the Corus (UK) Structural Steelwork blocks, I am stuck on the last one, the joist section.
On the attached drawing, there are 2 db's; the one on the right has all the sizes set up as vis states while the left hand one is the db I'm trying to create using lookup parameters. I've got everything working except getting the angles lines on the inside of the flanges to stretch correctly.
Could someone help me to fix this? I'm thinking the only way around it is to have a length parameter for the line and 2 distance parameters from the outer line of the flange to either endpoint of the lower line if that makes any sense.

Paul Kum, first off.... why are your arc scale actions based on the arc ends and not the arc centers? looking at the steel block that shipped w/ acad all the scale bases are from the centerpoint of the arcs...
i think that is your biggest issue right now, imo.

I did start off woth the arcs scaling from the centres, but I couldn't get 'em to stay where I wanted. The problem being that the short line changes length but apparently not equal to the radius of the arc, so I ended up with arcs everywhere.
I've been thinking - could I use some sort of point parameter linked to either end of the angled line to follow the ends of the arcs? I'm playing with this atm, but it's going all over the shop.

I'm playing with this atm, but it's going all over the shop.i was gonna suggest that after the base point issue. your trick will be addressing the angled lines vs. all the other blocks are right angles. at least the slopes are all the same.... :|
