My company has recently rolled out the LDT 2007 software, we are now looking into LDT 2008. Because of some problems we have been having with the software, we are being, essentially, forced into the LDT 2008 rollout. We normally rollout every other release because of the cost benefit ratio.
I know that Autodesk has not been focusing on LDT since 2005 when Civil 3D hit the market but it seems like the LDT software has been degrading with each version released. Surfaces with LDT 2005 take considerably less time to create and are much more stable than surfaces created with 2007. Why is that? Just today i had to convert a bunch of files from LDT 2007 to LDT 2005 just to create a surface with "minimize flat triangles" turned on. The surface would just hang on creation in the minimizing flat triangles phase of the build. When i converted the appropriate files back to LDT 2005 and made the surface, the surface was created with no fuss at all. Am i supposed to expect more of the same problems with LDT 2008?

I guess it's too late now for your case, but most people wait on at least SP1 to come out.

I can't speak for specific LDT2008 problems, but have you tried the much more active Autodesk LDT discussion group?

Yeah, by the time we actually get the roll out, rolled out, we will be doing the install with SP1 included. We are waiting for that, but we are getting everything ready now. Yes, i am active on the Autodesk discussion groups and there is a little animosity because of some issues. Our main beef is with GEO TIFF files and getting them in to CAD. Worked fine with LDT 2005 but it has issues with LDT 2007. There is no fix right now, but with LDT 2008 out now, we can't expect a fix for LDT 2007, Autodesk will just patch 2008.

Our main issue is that the Label commands truncate all leading zeros.

That means that when we label a line with the bearing, we get something like N8°5'5"W. It looks flat-out TERRIBLE on plats.

Since basically nothing else has changed in LDT, and we're mostly using C3D these days, we're sticking with the 2007 version of LDT for the time being.
