In some of my families I have symbols with filled solid regions in them. Since upgrading to 2008 I have to print my documents as raster images or the filled regions disappear leaving only the outlines of the filled regions. It dosen't matter what printer I use or if I use PDF or DWF. If I use raster processing with DWF or PDF the files are big even at 300 dpi. does any one know if this is a bug or not?

Have you tried printing with grayscale, and then black lines?

Here is one of the families. Can some one give it a go to make sure its a problem with revit & not one of my settings?

After a little more experimenting, it appears that if I edit the hosted symbol in the family & change the filled region to a diagonal hatch with a pitch of 0.5mm it appears ok in the Vector processed DWF, but if I change the filled region to the same hatch with a 0.1mm pitch, so that it looks solid, it disappears in the Vector processed DWF

Does anyone have any Ideas? Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I could really do with a solution to this problem as I have a lot of drawings to send out for a tender, I would like to send them by email but if I print them using raster processing the files are too big for most inboxes (+10mB). Vector processing gives the right size but the symbols lose their colour which helps Identify the component to the reader.

Try the new build for RA08 it seems to fix this problem

Thanks anyway.

Darren
I have experienced a similar issue with very dense drafting hatch pattern.
I solved it, temporarily, by changing the pattern into solid.
I didn't find the time or need to investigate what went wrong.

Unfortunately ... this does not work with the Rfa you posted.

2008 SP1 fixes this problem. In the mean time, you can print Raster instead of Vector, and filled regions in annotation will mask as intended.

Best,
Gordon

Gordon,
Thanks for your reply. SP1???? I'm on the latest build (see above). The main problem I'm having is the fact that PDF's & DWF's printed using raster processing produce files that look correct but are too big to email to clients without breaking them up into several emails. Vector processed DWF's & PDF's are the right size but symbols nested in families omit solid hatches but the same symbols inserted into the drawing print OK, very odd, very annoying. This problem has only started with 2008, R9.1 was fine.

Hi Darren,

I am experiencing the very same issue. I have voice/data annotations that print all but the black fill from 2008, even though they look fine on the screen. We recently upgraded the model and were not experiencing this issue before the upgrade. I believe the issue is only occurring when the annotation is nested in another family, although I haven't confirmed that for sure.

Sorry I don't have a solution for you, but I thought it might at least be reassuring to know that someone else is having the same problem.

We experienced the same issue, but the first new build for RA2008 fixed it for us. If you're on subscription, please do send that family into AutoDesk as a support request for clarification. Mark it as urgent, though I've yet to submit any request and have it take more than a few hours for an initial response.

Good luck!

Darren,

I have had similar problems in that my labels on title blocks do not print out, though they appear in print previews. My grid line annotations do not print either, which leads me to believe there are other annotation types that will be problematic. I addressed the problem by looking at my plotter set-up. Essentially, I created a Local Port for my plotter and used a generic driver that pointed to the IP_ADDRESS of our plotter on the network (I did this originally for a different problem related to PDF creation from ACAD, and also because of errors when trying to print half-sized documents). I don't know why it worked, but it did...so far. It seems to be a problem with RAC2008- not you. good luck.
