I need a macro to retrieve a dimstyle from another file and place it on the current file. I am going to use the macro on a tool paletteWhy couldn't you just place dimension styles (from a library) on a tool pallet?

Library? in autocad? What do you mean by a library?
Library? in autocad? What do you mean by a library? What I mean by a library is a collection of cadd files you use allot, placed usually on a network server.
You could create cadd files with your desired dimension styles, use AutoCAD's design center to drag them onto a tool palette. Then you just drag them from the tool palette into your drawing (you would need to adjust the insertion properties on the tool palette).
You could also just drag just the dimstyle into your drawing using "design center" instead of a tool palette.

I can use design center and drag blocks to the tool palette but text styles, dimstyles etc. will not drag over AutoCAD 2006
I can use design center and drag blocks to the tool palette but text styles, dimstyles etc. will not drag over AutoCAD 2006I know what you mean, I was referring to maybe placing those inside a drawing and putting that on a tool palette. You would still need to access the dimension styles after you dragged the file in, not quite as automated as you wanted.
I thought there was a way to link a macro to a tool palette, you may want to look into Lynn Allen's article on tool palettes, part 2. If I can find the link I'll post it.
Good luck
Here's that link to Lynn Allen's article on Tool Palettes and macros.
