View Full Version : Can't Rebuild Geometry

So I'm trying the Dreaded "Mirror" command on an entire project. However when I do it I get "Can't Rebuild Geometry" error. It won't SHOW me what the error is and gives me no information. Anyone have any ideas? I'm guessing it could be anything from a generic model or a wall or window or door that could be causing the problem? One other thing that complicates the situation is that I have 4 options I'm flipping at the same time. I've succesfully done this with 3 other projects, so I know it can be done. Thanks

You are likely quite right. I suspect this is related to the "order" that Revit uses when mirroring huge quantities of stuff.
Have seen this problem in a similar way when I grab a family, select all instances and try to swap for another family. When there are instances of the swapped family (perhaps a window) spanning two separate walls, the copying and mirroring does not always appear to copy or mirror to joined geometry. As a result, I get a message that it cannot create the geometry - it appears unable to decide which wall should be the host so it just disappears.
This is anecdotal evidence at best and I cannot verify this is the case with any certainty.
Another similar issue that I can document happens when editing a family from within a project. When a type has been created in the project that exceeds the size of the original host element (for example, a door family is created in a wall that is 8x10 and the door type created in the project is 9x12), you will get a similar error. You can continue editing the family but must recreate the opening.
Not sure this helps but it may narrow the things you must try to find. Interesting that I have no language to explain what I think the program is doing other than to anthropomorphize Revit. I do know Revit is software and not a person. Really...
