Add low volatage calculation and layout capabilities for Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, etc.

The low voltage industry has been fairly ignored in the software industry. Fire Alarm systems in particular are pretty involved in the calculation requirements to meet code. Voltage drops, circuit loading (usually in amps, not volts), backup battery calculations, etc. are all necessary aspects of design. Currently there is no software program on the market that addresses these issues. AMEP has the potential to be tweaked to address this market and in doing so would open up a whole nother industry to its market.

Great idea. We currently "farm out" our fire alarm design but it would be nice to be able to do it in house.

Not a bad idea. Bear in mind however that Fire Alarm is a specialty field that requires some very specific training to lay out correctly and to code, especially the equipment. Many specs also require that the designer be NICET certified in Fire Alarm Systems. Another issue that can arise is whether or not the manufacturer of the system components provides training in how to properly use their equipment.
