What does 3 mean, please?
AutoCAD documentation regarding dbmod says:
"
(Read-only)
Type: Integer
Not saved
Indicates the drawing modification status using bitcode. The value is the sum of the following:

1 Object database modified
4 Database variable modified
8 Window modified
16 View modified

AutoCAD resets the DBMOD value to 0 when you save the drawing.
"
From this I not understand how dbmod can be reported as "3". Unless it can three times add 1. But I don't expect that. If I open a dwg. dbmod is 0 as it should be. If I open the layers dialog box, change a layer color and pick OK to exit, then dbmod will be 3. I would expect either 1,4 or 5. 3 is not listed and is not indicated in "Documentation Corrections and Additions".

I have no idea what bitcode 2 means. However, in AutoCAD 2005, your procedure only results in DbMod=1 for me.

Although undocumented, my guess is that bitcode 2 = Database Table modified. Since opening a blank drawing, changing layer "0" color to red results in a dbmod of 3 (1 + 2), and if you change the height of the Standard text style in a new drawing you get a dbmod of 7 (1 + 2 + 4).
