Grading Curtain

Here's an interesting one. Anyone seen anything like this? When grading a feature line to a surface using a very steep slope (the one used in the image is 0.01:1) there is the draping affect. The steeper the slope, the more drastic it is. Any ideas on what might have caused it? It only seems to be doing it in the areas where the feature line is curved.
