View Full Version : Contour Labels not working

My contour labels will not show in my xref'ed drawings. The contours labels are done as multiple contours and I turn off the "contour label line." This shows up fine in the model but as soon as I xref and look at it in paper space, the labels disappear. If I turn on the label line, the label shows up but at the wrong scale (too small to be see).

How can I get my contour labels to show as they do in my model?

Thanks

Do you use a scale of 1 (one) for your paperspace border or the scale of the drawing (scaled up border)? This might affect the way they look in paper space. The size and visibility might also be a simple fix from the label style itself. Do you have the label on a layer and the "label line" on a different layer?

We use paper space is 1 to 1. I have since come across other drawings that do not have this problem. I am currently looking into what was different when the drafter created the other drawings.

I normally turn off the label line, as it is part of the contour label object. Where in the contour label style can you give the line a different layer?

You can turn it off in the Surface > Feature Settings > Contour Labeling Defaults > Display Contour Label Line > False

I just saw in there today where to change the layer and I'll be darned if I can find it now.

Found some items of interest.

HA! I KNEW IT!
Edit Surface Style > Summary Tab > Default Contour Label Line Layer

HA! I KNEW IT!
Edit Surface Style > Summary Tab > Default Contour Label Line Layer

That setting no longer has any effect. It was used prior to 2008, but contour labels were revamped in 2008, and it no longer has any effect. Autodesk forgot to remove that line from the summary tab.

In 2008, contour labels and label lines go on the layer specified in Drawing Settings -> Object Layers -> Tin Surface-Labeling. They always go on the same layer, so you must set the "Display Contour Line" setting to false to keep the line from plotting.

Yeah I saw that. I had been working on my template earlier today and had saw the setting in the summary tab, but hadn't tested it. Isn't that crazy that it's there for no reason.

The guy in that thread at the Autodesk groups said that it doesn't plot and knew that was hogwash because I had a drawing not long ago where the label lines were there and they did plot. I had saw that setting and thought that maybe it actually worked.

Thank you for that!
