View Full Version : Beam System Tag for Sloped Roof

I was really starting to like using beam systems and their tags, since this is one of the only ways I can create my tag to resemble what we used in AutoCAD. But I can't figure out why my custom tag (or any beam system tag) doesn't recognize my beam system. It recognizes my flat joist beam system (same level), but not the sloped roof.
Any clues to what I'm doing wrong here?
I'm also trying to attach a file of what I have, but can't even get the file small enough. I copied just the roof to another empty file, then purged it, but it's still 3 megs. Frustration level increasing...

It's a problem with Revit tagging things in non parallel planes to to your current view. You'll probably run across some functionality probems with dimensions and the EQ function. You might want to try switching back to your sloped beam system's workplane and trying that. I haven't really been using the beam system tool much though so I'm not 100% on that one, I'm just going based on how other tools and families react to similar conditions.

thanks for the reply, alan.
although i'm not quite sure what you mean when you say "switch back to your sloped beam system's workplane..."
could you elaborate?

The way I typically model sloped beams and sloped beam systems is to create the deck that goes over them, then select that as my work plane and model my beams. You can do that by clicking the button that says "plan" in the upper left and then using the "pick a plane" option select the sloping deck or sheathing. Instead of modelling everything on the level your view is set to it will model everything along the plane you just selected. When you want to switch back you just go back into the plane options and you can pick the level that applies to your current view. You can also pick named reference planes to use as your work plane.
What I think Revit's problem is is that it seems to not like having to put dimensions and certain tags on objects whos plane intersects the views level.
Hope that helps.

alan, that is exactly how i modeled my beam system (with a named plane in line with my decking). the problem i'm having is tagging that with the beam system tag. anybody know of a work around to tag that thing if the beam system plane intersects my view level?
