I use mechanical desktop 2005 and AutoCAD to design machinery and parts.

being self taught and the only designer at my company i am finding that it is difficult to come up with a set of standards that mirror industry standards. Would anyone care to share their basic setup of cad standards, profiles and or typical screen menus?
i am interested in anything from a typical sheet layout to what buttons or menus you prefer on the screen. Profile settings, layer or color arrangements, file locations, anything at all would be helpful
i just want to see how others are doing some of the same basic things...

i would also be interested in any sites or literature on the subject.....

thanks again

to tell you the truth, i think that every company does it a little differently. Right now i have the task of combining two companies standards together it is a bigger job than i had intended on. but here is a basic idea of our layers.
0 layer is white-we prefer not to use it
cen layer is green
dim layer is yellow
hatch layer is magenta
hidden layer is cyan
obj1 layer is what we draw parts in. i like the idea of drawing each part in an assembly a different color and put on a separate layer that way if it needs to be revised i can turn off all other layers and only see that one part i need. we use decimal dimensions rounded to two places and use metric as alternate units. the heights are 1/8" typically
let me know if this helps
