I have a switch family that I have created. I have different types to indicate if the switch is weather proof, dimmer, low voltage......... The indicator is text and should ALWAYS appear to the right of the symbol. All works great if the switch is placed on a wall that is east or south but if I place it on a north or west wall the text gets bumped to the left side of the symbol. I have tried to pin it, place a reference plane to lock it, and tried the different family/category settings but I can not make it stick to the right of the switch. I did look at a switch from out of the box and the three way does the same thing. Any suggestions?

Response from ADSK

Thank you for contacting Autodesk Support. I took a look at your Switch family as well as the 3-way switch in Revit to confirm how the identity of each type of switch responds. Unfortunately, there is no workaround for this currently. Essentially the switch rotates depending on where it hosts itself to a wall, and the annotation is automatically rotated to be "readable".

The ability to have more control over device/switch annotation is already an open request with our development team. I'll log your case against this request, and see if I can provide additional information as it becomes available.

Here is my work around since the keep readable, does not keep it readable. In the Annotation family, create multipule Labels rotated according to how you want it to show up in the drawing, create multipule parameters Anno -0, Anno - 90 , Anno - 180 , Anno - 270. or what ever you want and control there visiblity with an instantance. So if you alway want it on the right, the create a "Mirror" of the label and add the parameter Anno- 180 or mirror or whatever. after you insert the switch turn on the visibilty of the one you need.

Have you tried mirroring the symbol on north or west walls? That should put the text on the correct side. Otherwise I guess you are stuck with nixon's sugestion.

It seems like we always end up with tons of redundant parameters and information in our families to get them to "work" correctly...

Good idea on the mirror, the text looked better but the switch was mounted on the wrong side of the wall.

I completely agree on the redundant information..... a great example is the default height on a receptacle. If you want to tag a receptacle mounting height you have to create another parameter to deal with the height!

yeah, I tried the mirror also. and the re-host does not work either. I wish they would not but the system parameters in there, they dont seem to work most of the time. I had a heck of a time getting the apparent power to work on transformers. I had to create parameters just to tell it what the unit was (Watts) so that it would read it.
