Hello all -
I'm currently looking into the automation of mechanical design and automatic drafting data generation (such as BOM, inventories, etc), and what I'm learning is pointing me toward a Mechanical package. Now, I've played around with Mechanical a bit, and from the reading documentation on it further, Autodesk seems to label it as the "2D" package. I've always done my 3d modeling in AutoCAD for large scale, non-precise projects, and some Inventor / Pro E for very precise work. I would prefer to stick with an AutoCAD system, and my question is this:
What difference is there between Mechanical and Mech. Desktop, and which will be able to generate the data I had mentioned above?
Would you recommend doing the modeling in vanilla 2005 (which I feel is faster than Mech in terms of program speed), and the drafting in Mechanical?
Lastly, does Mechanical offer the same type of dbconnect options as AutoCAD? - Haven't gotten that far in yet.
Thanks so much for your help,
Albert
