That is just a label. You will have to edit the scale using the ._SCALELISTEDIT command to see what the actual ratio for that scale is.

It's a label. The 1:10 is the scale, and the 24 is the file name. That means that the annotation scale 1:10_24 is from file 24 and it is a 1:10 scale. When you xref a drawing the annotation scales come with it.
AutoCAD 2009 has a feature that will allow you to turn of xref scales so that you can't see them. It makes the list much smaller.

No.
Just because it says 1:10 doesn't mean that the ratio is 1:10. You can name a scale anything. It's probably a good guess, but only a guess.
Also, the 24 is not from a file name. File names are not appended to scale names.
Only the string "_XREF" is appended.
AutoCAD 2009 has a feature that will allow you to turn of xref scales so that you can't see them. It makes the list much smaller.
It only hides the _XREF scales, it doesn't delete them. So you still have to remove them.

Thank you all for a quick reply
The drawing I'm working on is an old dwg drawn in 2006 ( don't know if that means anything).
What I've wanted to do is add an annotation scales 1:10 and 1:5.
My scale list was full of scales like 1:10_22; 1:5_6 and so on. I made an effort and clean up all that mess yesterday. When I opened it this morning there it is 1:10_1 and 1:5_1 on the Status Bar. I've checked, scales are 1:10 and 1:5 but why does it add these numbers. It is annoying.
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Is there any other scale lists with similar names 1:10 or 1:5?

I'll try to explain what is going on.
I've cleaned up the dwg from scales I talked about and end up with regular AutoCAD scale list on Status Bar.
I've assigned 1:10 and 1:5 scales to my objects and kept working and I should probably mention that after that I didn't do anything with scales.
When I opened it the next morning I looked in the scale list and there it was 1:10_1; 1:5_1. Furthermore, while working that day I got more scales 1:10_2 and 1:5_2. Next day 1:10_3 and today 1:10_4.
All scales (1:10; _1_2_3) have the same Scale Properties 1 paper unit=10 dwg units except 1:10_4. It has 1 paper units=0.01 dwg units.
I didn't create these scales. CAD adds them and I would really like to know what am I doing wrong?
Thanks

As Master Yoda pointed out earlier when you xref a drawing the annotation scales come with it. That's the only way I can think of that would explain scales being added unexpectedly as you describe. Are there any drawings references in your drawing? Try opening those drawings to see if they contain those errant scales and clean them up. Unfortunately they spread like viruses, so fixing now will be easier than fixing later.

Hi Tom,
There are no xref drawings. I have only several blocks pasted from other dwg which have the same annotation scale.
The only thing I've noticed was some problems with annotative hatches.
At the moment I have 1:10_5 added to my list at the beginning of the week. After that I had no new scales added.
If anyone finds out something that could clarify this for me I would be more than grateful
It is end of the business week for me so,
Happy Easter Everyone
Have you installed any Service Packs for 2008?

Yes, I've installed Service Pack 1.

Yes, I've installed Service Pack 1.
Note that SP1 only prevents future scale list entries from being imported from nested xrefs. Existing drawings (and their xrefs) still have to be cleaned, from the bottom up.

Looks like I'm the only one with this issue.

I've not had any issues like this (although I have only started using the annotation scaling in the last couple weeks), but it sounds as though the blocks you are inserting may have the scales nested in them.
I know I use a template drawing to pull in linetypes, layers, dimstyles etc, and I assume scale lists would also be brought in.

What I've found so far is that people do have problem with a scale list. It has something to do with xrefs and blocks. Also this happens when you Paste with original coordinates and doesn't have to be a block or objects with annoscale it happens when you Paste a simple line.

i am having the same problem. i have cleaned up the xrefs so that there is no 'funny' scales, but when i bring in the xref to my drawing theyre back (1:1_2, 1:1000, 1:1_4). i have tried reseting the scale lists, but these wont delete. is there anyway of manually deleting these?

Try the new Scale List Cleanup Utility (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=11062617&linkID=9240858) from Utilities & Drivers (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/index?siteID=123112&id=2334440&linkID=9240858) section of Autodesk Data and Downloads. Works great!

doesnt seem to work :( is there anything else i could do?Was the problem installing, starting, selecting a template file to use, or selecting the drawing files to apply it to?
Take a look at this thread (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=66787#5). I modified ScaleListDel.lsp for the Civil ones we used and it works great.

What doesn't work?
You have to clean drawings from the bottom up. Start with the lowest level xref and work your way up to the parent drawing. Make sure you have SP1 installed prior to starting the cleanup.
