when rendering an exterior view from a revit file in 3ds max , one part of the model disappears, the geometry in question shows in the viewport and can have materials applied to it, but when rendering with mental ray, the geometry disappears. is this a known problem with revit to max conversion.

Check to see if you have coplanar faces. Thats what it looks like to me.

If coplanar surfaces are not causing the problem, try right clicking the geometry in question and select "Object Properties" form the quad menu. Under the "General" tab, look at "Rendering Control" and ensure "Visible to Camera" is on.
The default setting is "on", but worth checking.

It could also possibly be a face normal issue. What versions of revit and max are you working with and what did you export the revit geometry as - Polymesh or ACIS solids?
