I've had this problem in both LDD Comapaniona nd Civil 3d v2008 & 2009.
The LAI command alias is gone for layer isolate.
When I put it back using express tools-->command tools-->command alias editor
it works for the current session.
when i start a new session, it always returns 'invalid system variable 'DIMSCALE' and it lists the current dwg scale.
any ideas? I've got quite a few users, besides myself, who use those shortcuts.

I normally just use my custom toolbar that has layer isolate, layer freeze, layer off, turn all layers on, and thaw all layers...
Nonetheless, I have co-workers that use the "LAI" command and it seems to have worked as supposed to (in LDCC3D2008-SP2)...
Do you have SP2? I don't know that there was a problem in previous versions of 2008, so sp2 may not fix it...

I have sp2 in 2008, but there isn't one in 2009 yet. still doesn't work.
My users are loathe to change unless they must, and i know that i, at least, don't have much screen real estate to devote to another toolbar, nor do i want to use one for this, so I'd much rather have the command working again.
ANother thing i noticed, is that when i type the full layiso command, there is no longer the option to pick from a dialog box with list of layers, the default action is <settings>. If somebody knows how to get this back as well, that would be nice. the pick box prtion works, but the list has usefulness as well

I'm going out on a limb here and say you may of migrated you old settings from 2006/7 when you installed 008/9. If you did then what is happening is the old layisolate command which was an express tool command is over riding the core autocad command in 2008/9 versions when you edit the alias file the first time, yet when you start a new session the core command is top of the list and being used, the "lai" alias is calling an other command instead of the layer isolate command.

if i migrated the settings, i'd like to know how, since i didn't run any migration steps, just s new install from the dvds. and even if this is what happened, how do i fix it?

That's why I said "I am going out on a limb" :) With out know your whole setup there's no wy I can tell what's happening. Are any of the support paths to old files or startup lisp loading?

i load a few arx, dvb and lsp files, but nothing with the paths. eachtime we do a new install, i go trhough and set the ones that are necessary, like label stylses, prototypes, tool palettes, and plot styles, not much else is ever different from the acad defaults

As a test start a new dwg with out loading those ARX,VBA or lisps, set the alias and try it, if it works then manually load the arx, vba, lisp files one at a time testing the alias after each one loads.

I've had this issue myself. It seems to only be a problem if the current dimension style is annotative. Switch it to a non-annotative dimstyle and it should work. Definitely a bug...

that did the trick. i hope this also fixes the same error with the ze (zoom extents). I can live with this until a fix comes out though.
thanx
