View Full Version : Export to DWG - Landscape

I have a situation where there is a large amount of outdoor retaining walls, planters, slabs and stairs that are in the Landscape Architect's scope, but of course I need to have these items modeled for accurate sections, elevation and 3D presentation views. The LA is working in 2D AutoCAD, so I link their file into the site and model on top. All fine, but then I have to export my views back to them in DWG for coordination, and I am having problems with granular layer control. Walls are fine, as I can set my planter walls and such to be Retaining walls, and thus get a separate layer for those items. But stairs, slabs ramps and such do not offer different "functions", so I get one layer for both my interior ramps in the classrooms and exterior ramps. This becomes tedious when they have to manually convert those items to a different layer, as they need to be able to turn them on and see what we are doing, but turn them off for their final DWGs.
Has anyone run into this and found a BIMmie way to deal with it? The best I have come up with yet is a filter in my export views to override graphics, and exporting with New Layer for Overrides. This seems like a kludge, and I have yet to try it. Hopefully there is a better way.

Thanks,
Gordon
