So I have Revit 2009 and I have NavisWorks Manage 2009 both with an active network license. You can not import Revit into NavisWorks and when you look at the help topics in NavisWorks, these are the instructions.
Exporting .nwc files from Revit:
Start Revit and load the project.
Set the editing view to normal, and make sure the Modify tool is selected.
Select the Tools > External Tools > Autodesk NavisWorks Manage 2009 menu option. If this option is not available, check firstly that the Modify tool is selected, and secondly that the Revit license is correct such that the product is not being used in Demo/Viewer mode.
Problem is I do not have the menu option under External Tools for Navisworks in Revit. I downloaded NavisWorks Freedom to see if that helped but no additional options. Looked at both the Autodesk sites for each program and could not find anything. Am I missing something? The only usergroup comments were for Revit 2008 or earlier.
Thank you for any help

We have Navisworks here and it shows under External Tools menu... If it is installed and not showing to you and you are sure that you are not on a command while trying to look for it (press Escape several times to be sure), I would contact Navisworks support as I think it is more a Navisworks issue than a Revit issue.

Did you install NavisWorks Manager after the Revit installation?
If you did install NavisWorks after Revit and it is not available under "Tools > External Tools" in Revit, you may need to manually modify the Revit.ini file.
As an example here is what my Revit.ini file says about NavisWorks under the section for External Commands:
[ExternalCommands]
ECName1=NavisWorks 2009
ECClassName1=NavisWorks6.LcRevitExportCommand
ECAssembly1=C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk\NavisWorks\2009\nwexportrevit2009\nwexportrevit2009_6.dll
ECDescription1=File exporter for NavisWorks 2009
Hope this helps

We have a program that pushes out packages of programs to the individuals computers which is probably why the external tool was lost. I will try the ini file change but this brings up a topic that is really interesting.
Why can you not typically export to NavisWorks without owning NavisWorks?
They are essentially forcing NavisWorks users (contractors and others) to own Revit so that they can convert a Revit File or they are forcing architects to buy NavisWorks so that they can send files to others. They are all the same company... they should have a plugin or be built in for this. It is like saying that you can not export to autocad without having autocad. Everyone would think this is rediculous.

AUGI has a Navisworks forum (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=923) too so you might ask there? David Kingham is the moderator and he is a Revit user too...so he may have seen this thread already but not had a chance to chime in.

I realize that this is an old discussion, but I am having a similar issue in that I don't even see "external tools" under my "tools" at all. We have a standalone of Revit Arch. 2009 and a network version of NW Manage 2010.
I see the discussion of "ini" but have no idea what that is.
