I received an .ifc model from our steel fabricator that he exported from Tekla. I'd like to be able to click on and select each member but I am not able. Based on selection settings I either get the entire file when I click or the specific geometry of the member I'm interested in. The selection tree is also a little nutty with several sublevels before the geometry, see attached image. Is it possible to rearrange the selection tree somehow? Any other ideas?

Mitch,

In addition to working with IFC, you might try having your steel fabricator export the Tekla model as CIS/2. There is a translator at NIST (http://cic.nist.gov/vrml/cis2.html) that will convert to VRML which can be read into NavisWorks. Regarding the selection tree, you might try using search and selection sets to break down areas of the model into more manageable pieces.

Will the CIS/2 retain information better than other formats?
