Is it possible to view dwf files from within AutoCAD or do you need to use the Dwf Viewer?
Can you insert dwf files into AutoCAD?

Hi

1. Simple answer no, you need something like DWF Composer / Viewer / etc

BUT

You can import DWF mark-ups into AutoCAD -

Quick Article on Design Document Communication with DWF (http://autodesk.blogs.com/between_the_lines/dwf_it/index.html) (about halfway down)

2. Simple answer no, below is from JTB World AutoCAD 2005 Review (http://www.jtbworld.com/autocad2005.htm)

Still missing. Wish list for the next time.

Xref attach and bind of DWF files as a background into a DWG.
</snip>

There are ways of converting DWF into DWG format, below snippet is from an old ACAD Guild post I made (Oct 2002) -

Check out the following Technical Document's on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base section -

ID: TS64774
ID: TS11098 (Protecting a drawing from being edited - Kelvyn this one may interest you)
ID: TS65385
ID: TS59703

http://www.intelcad.com/pages/dwfin/index.htm has a Free 14 day evaluation download ObjectARX program that convert's DWF to DWG

or

A method that I just tried here, worked to some extent, not perfect but got a .DWG file -

Open .DWF file in VoloView and print to file so that a HPGL plot file is created.

Open the HPGL plot file in ViewCompanion (http://www.softwarecompanions.com)
SaveAs .DXF file.

Open AutoCAD and used the command ._DXFIN
</snip>

Have a good one, Mike

Hi

Please note I've *moved* this thread from the Software (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=117) Forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

Thanks, Mike

Mike is right. I think that would make a good wishlist item though.
