Linetypes with TrueTypes don't mix...sometimes

Has anyone seen this before...

We have a set of customized linetypes that use the TT Arial font. Sometimes the text portion ________ (disappears, rotates, mirrors, inverts, etc.). Pick one. This can occur in model space, paper space or show up on a plot without the other view changing. This does not occur with shape file fonts, ie. simplex, but I'd like to use a TT font. Any suggestions??? see jpg attachment.
