I wish I had the ability to control which layer is to be represented as shaded while the other layers are left in wire mode and the ability to set the transparency of that same layer if needed. This will help make the object of interest on that certain layer to stand out and with the transparency mode the user can have the ability to see through the part if they need to access a point on the back side of an object without rotating the view.

While not exactly what you want, you could use the LAYISO command (formerly an Express tool, now a full-fledged AutoCAD command) and instead of turning off the unselected layers, you can lock and fade them.

Your suggestion sounds great but the regeneration time needed to isolate and unisolate layers is counter productive. The other problem is LAYER FADING can not be used in a
3-D visual style. Sorry but no Cigar.

I was not suggesting that it was near to the equivalent of your wish, just that it might (with everything in 2D wire mode) get you closer. I would be very surprised if, should they implement your wish, that the regeneration time to make selected objects shaded, while others remained wireframe, would not exceed the time that layer isolate takes.

I tried your suggestion and it still doesn't meet my expectations. It's still cluttered and makes it hard to identify points of interrest lost in the wireframe clutter. I see it changes the layer colors using a greying effect which is, let's be honest, not a transparency. A transparency you can see through the linest that as of now stripes and covers up the lines of interrest.
Your suggestion is great for small projects. As for very complex system drawings
it doesn't help because of the wireframe clutter. Thanks for the suggestion though.
