Good Morning-

Does anyone out there know where I can get a good manual for ACE 2006? We have our installation up and running and are producing drawings, but would like to know a bunch of general stuff, like how do you change the default text locations to center and middle.

Thanks,

Mike80020

Hello Mike,
Welcome to the forum!
Manual for ACE2006…did you review the help file? If I recall correctly that is the year Autodesk stopped printing user guides. All the information is still available, just on your computer.
Where you able to go through a test drive of the software? We do have some classes for ACADE 2007 on the ATP archives.
Some times if you contact your reseller, they might have a printed copy.
Or look into Autodesk Official Training Courseware (AOTC).
When I get to work tomorrow I will look at the help files and see if I can give any directions.

Hi RenataP,

I do have some help files on my computer, but they are very limited and basic. Our system is up and running adequately, but we really want to fine tune it and get the most out of it. For example, there must be a way to make multiline text default to Center and Middle, but after three weeks of looking, I can't find it. I have no problem RTFMing, if I have a manual. It's just a little frustrating. We're beyond the basics, but not up to where we should be.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

With your example, Mtext inside regular AutoCAD using text formatting; the default is Top Left. To change this default it looks to be a programming issue.

Under the AutoCAD 2008 Help
“MText Justification
Displays the MText Justification menu with nine alignment options available. Top Left is the default.”

What about creating a Macro to accomplish what you are after? This does involve programming but not changing AutoCAD’s original insides, which I was unable to locate.

AutoCAD 2008 Command Reference > Commands > J commands > JUSTIFYTEXT > would be the command to start with.

If you have attributes that you would like to change on the fly, AutoCAD electrical has tools to achieve this with attribute Utilities. See attached jpeg.

Let me know if you would like to work on a macro.

By the way, what is RTFMing?

Renata-

Thanks for the info. I used a macro to justify the multiline text last time. The default macro is ^C^C_mtext. I edited (I thought) it to ^C^C_mtext JUSTIFY^C^M. This worked until one day our system crashed and they reinstalled my copy. The macro went to silicon heaven and hasn't been seen since. We have had a lot of problems getting our Autocad system to work properly. (Its an eight seat network.) I'm not sure if this problem is with the macro or the system. Unfortunately, AutoCad Electrical 2006 doesn't test macros before using them, so syntax could also be an issue.

Oh yeah- RTFM is an old computer term. It means Read The Flaming Manual and is usually followed with several personal insults. In some cases, computers have even been confiscated.

I used the link to the Autodesk document and media center. They don't support 2006 anymore. Hopefully, we will upgrade to 2009 soon.

Thanks again for your help,

Mike
