We have (2) current users on Inventor 2009. (3) more users will follow accordingly. Do we have to install a full version of Inventor/ACAD Mech. on the (Linux) server or is there a way to just install the Vault?

I'm not sure where to start. What are the recommended first steps to take once you get Vault installed ?

There should be an ADMS part of the Vault to be installed on your server, or central database. This does not need any Autodesk products to install, only the Vault Explorers do.
