We are having an issue with ceiling patterns not showing up in the print preview or printing even for that matter. After reading a few older posts (that relate to PDF printing) I have found out that it prints if raster printing is turned on, and does not print with vector printing – but raster printing is an unacceptable option for us.

What frustrates me more is that it prints in certain rooms and not in others. In other threads (that still relate to PDF printing), post allude to the possibility that this has to do with Revit being unable to clean up the joins between certain entities and therefore can’t properly interpolate a vector based pattern. I have manually joined (by using the join geometry tool) the ceilings that do not print to their adjacent walls, and still do not have any success in the pattern printing in vector.

I say all that to ask – how do I fix this? Attached are screenshots that show the RCP model view and one that shows the print preview screen. Notice that the same pattern in the top part of the screen shot prints, but the two in the center does not.

The thread that I alluded to earlier is here:

I am very surprised (and disappointed) there isn’t more discussion on this… hatches not printing are a big deal - especially when you are able to see them on the screen! This is the type of thing that cause offices to reject the program and stick to ACAD … project managers never think they could completely trust the program as much as they could “ol’ faithful”.

If you can see them on screen then it's either a driver issue or memory.

Why can't you use raster?

I would think that it wouldn’t be a driver issue since if I happen to edit the ceiling (by moving its shape in any way) then it prints suddenly. This doesn’t fit the bill of a stereotypical memory issue since A, it doesn’t show the hatch in the print preview screen and B, we process printing through the server - not the printer’s CPU.

Raster isn’t really an option since only 2 sheets out of the set have this problem…and it would take a great deal of time to print an entire set rasterized. Remembering to print only 2 sheets in the set raster would lend itself to human error (aka forgetting) and since multiple people are working on this project, that would be very likely. Long story short, raster isn’t impossible…it is just extremely impractical.

Also – I do think this thread has higher merit than just my little issue…maybe its just me, but hatches not printing are a big deal especially in projects that have demolition (like this current one we are discussing).
