ACAD 2005 lets you save to .DWG version 2000. I like the "publish to plotter" function in 2005. But, when you publish a set of files using sheet set, all the files get re-saved to version 2004. Is there any way to stop this re-save to version 2004? Under TOOLS; OPTIONS my FILE SAVEAS setting is set to "AutoCAD 2000".
Yes, Virginia, there is a way to control the SAVEAS version during the "publish to plotter" function OR turn off the need to re-save each one of the files.
When you right-click the sheet set name and choose "PUBLISH", do not choose "PUBLISH TO PLOTTER" (it starts immediately, not allowing any options and includes the step that saves each file to the 2004 version). Instead pick the "PUBLISH DIALOG BOX" option, then shift/select the files to publish (or key in [Ctrl+A] for select all) then click "PUBLISH". Tad-ah!

Hi

I don't have AutoCAD 2005 but I believe the issue / problem you state is linked to the following shortcoming of AutoCAD when it comes to honoring the File Save .dwg format option -

Below snippets are from JTB World (http://www.jtbworld.com/autocad2005.htm) AutoCAD 2005 Review:

<snip>
Wblock and Refedit does not save into the same version as is set in OPTIONS. It always saves in 2004 DWG format. This makes it annoying in a mixed environment during migration when some still uses older versions. You might be helped with this code (http://www.jtbworld.com/VBA/SavedTo2004.htm).

Reference manager always saves changed files to 2004 format. It should be able to retain the existing format if it is in 2000.
</snip>

<snip>
SaveAll is not using the Option setting. If it is set for 2000 format and you have drawings in 2004 version and do a SaveAll it saves them as 2004 not 2000.
</snip>

Might like to post a suitable AutoCAD Wish List Item -

Have a good one, Mike

I am having the same problem, in 2005 I refedit a block, then when I open it in 2000 or 2002 it is saved in a non-compatible dwg. grrrrrrrr. If someone finds something for this, please let me know.

best reguards.
