Layers will not turn on

We are having trouble with layers staying turned on. When we go into the layer manager and turn on a layer, it shows the lightbulb being on, but when the manager is closed, the objects do not appear and the lightbulb is turned off again. When I open the same drawing on other computers, everything works fine. Obviously, it is something with that computer, but what could it be? Any ideas?

sounds like its the computer, i had something similar happen to me with plotting
back in april after microsoft released an update for windows xp. i did a restore from feburary with no luck fixing the problem. The only solution i had was to reinstall windows and redeploy 2008 back to my computer. maybe someone else my have a diffrent solution.
